An earthquake was reported in Western North Carolina on Tuesday.

38 people are confirmed dead and the search is on for at least 150 more following a 6.2-magnitude earthquake that struck central Italy early this morning near Amatrice.  A small town with a population of a few thousand, Mayor Sergio Perozzi says his town “is no more.” The quake hit at 3:36 a.m. local time.  

A second powerful earthquake has stricken Nepal this morning, registering 7.4 on the Richter Scale.  Just weeks ago a first quake ravaged the nation and left more than 8,000 people dead. People who made donations to Haiti may be able to get immediate tax relief. Taxpayers who itemize deductions on their 2009 return qualify for this special tax relief provision. Only cash contributions made to these charities after Jan. 11, 2010, and before March 1, 2010, are eligible. This includes contributions made by text message, check, credit card or debit card.

Haitian couple's efforts to reunite with their injured daughter in the U.S. wasn't a typical reunion. It has been an ordeal that involved DNA testing and stress, but it was well worth the fight.
