Armed members of the New Black Panther Party on Wednesday marched outside of the Waller County Jail in Hempstead, Texas, to protest the arrest and subsequent death of Sandra Bland and what they called other “crimes against Black people,” reports Houston’s Fox 26:

Yahcanon with the Black Panther Party says, “we have to take back the power, it will define who we are.”

They’re the latest group to target the Waller County Sheriff after the July 13th death of Sandra Bland.

The group took to the streets in what appeared to be a stand off with deputies from Waller County backed up by Harris County and the weapons were everywhere.

The scene comes just days after armed members of the Oath Keepers, a White militia group, mingled with law enforcement in Ferguson, Missouri on the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown‘s death. The 18-year-old’s death at the hands of a White ex-Ferguson officer inspired a global movement against police violence.

Underscoring the racial schism in the U.S., members of the New Black Panther Party were greeted by barricades and mostly White officers from several departments in Hempstead, Texas. Meanwhile in Ferguson, White gun-toting members of the Oath Keepers walked freely with mostly White law enforcement.
