You will NOT find GOD in the mean-spirited and vindictive behaviors of human beings.  To claim that GOD is in your heart, yet your attitude and behaviors are spiteful and vicious is analogous to a Pastor surreptitiously berating a congregant during a sermon. It sounds good to other unsuspecting members, but to the target of this invective, it’s merely a veiled attempt to be malicious.

It’s quite disheartening to see people act in ways contradictory to their proclaimed faith. And while we’re all subject to error, it’s grievously disappointing when “people of faith” feign spiritual superiority, while knowing instinctively that their personal behaviors are in stark contradiction to their proclamation. For years I’ve seen people carry bibles and hold grudges. I’ve heard people speak in tongues and engage in gossip. I’ve seen people run up and down a church isle in spiritual frenzy and chase down their victims in a fit of rage. I’ve seen people preach love and teach hate. It’s ever so curious how someone can read scripture at their desk, but plot to undermine people that share the same workspace. These actions are both immoral and antithetical to the notion of being “God-filled.”

The human experience is indeed fraught with challenge. But it’s better to know a person’s struggle upfront than to be on the receiving end of their conniving hypocrisy and spiritual contradictions.
