Families across the Southeastern United States are working to rebuild their lives after powerful storms and tornadoes caused them to lose their homes, family heirlooms and other property earlier this week. The storms, which hit parts of Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama, were a part of a system moving across the nation. Damage totals from the storm will likely reach the billions and the current death count is being reported at 290. President Barack Obama called the loss of life from the storms heartbreaking and pledged the federal government’s support to the areas suffering.

Storms also hit parts of the Midwest, but most report Tuscaloosa AL, being the hardest hit from the storms. Several weeks ago the storms hit parts of North Carolina leaving many without power or homes. Shawn University in Raleigh was forced to close for the rest of the year as a result of the storms.

The American Red Cross is encouraging donations to help those impacted by the storms. The text fundraising system is up and running as is the toll-free giving number.

You can donate $10 to the cause by texting REDCROSS to 90999. Standard message rates apply. You can donate any amount by calling the toll-free number – 1800REDCROSS.
