Some Duke power customers remained without power in the Charlotte region after a powerful overnight storm left more than 200,000 people without power on Tuesday. Duke Power told the Charlotte Observer it could take a couple of days to restore power to everyone. The storm swept through the area about 2 a.m. on Tuesday waking people with thunder, lightening and howling winds. Trees felled power lines and damaged homes throughout the area. By rush hour on Tuesday commuters navigated non-working traffic lights, and some went to offices that didn’t have power. The storm closed section of I-485 for a while. N.C. 51 remained closed.
