Yesterday, House Democrats staged a sit-in on the floor of the chamber to push for more gun-control measures. Led by Rep. John Lewis, a core group of about 20 stayed overnight with pillows and blankets, at best heightening awareness about gun violence.

Earlier this month, a gunman killed 49 people at a nightclub in Orlando, FL. The shooter was on the FBI’s radar, but wasn’t on any terror watch lists, allowing him to purchase guns. Earlier this week, the Senate failed to pass four gun control measures – two of which might have prohibited the shooters legal access to guns.  One would ban people on the terrorism watch list from buying guns, and another would tighten background checks. Democrats continue their sit-in this morning, and are hoping for gun reform when everyone comes back from break on July 5th.
