The Black Church is an institution in the African-American Community. Its role in the Civil Rights Movement is celebrated. The Black Church’s presence in the community, as well as its benevolence is undoubtedly a major contributor to the bevy of achievements the black community has experienced over the years. But in many quarters of the Black Community, the so-called Black Church has not only abdicated its spiritual and social mandates, it has become an institution of insensitivity, profit and celebrity.
