As Hurricane Florence takes a turn south and west towards the Carolinas, light is shed on a dangerous disparity in Charleston County.  One of the largest counties in South Carolina apparently has no shelters strong enough to handle the level strength of the storm coming. Residents will have to rely on neighboring counties of Berkeley, Dorchester and Orangeburg, whose capacity is already stressed.

A recent engineering survey assessed than none of the shelters in Charleston County, the third-largest in the state, is fit to be used for any storm above Category 3.
