Count this as round number two of recent deaths to shock the world this fall. Singer/songwriter and longtime collaborative force in the worlds of gospel and pop music Jessy Dixon has reportedly passed away yesterday at the age of 73.

Dixon, born in Texas, came to prominence in Chicago, first as a session keyboardist for Chess Records, then later in front of the Chicago Community Choir, an offshoot of the Thompson Community Singers, with his choir recording several albums on Savoy Records. Dixon went on to record several solo projects, as well as write songs that were recorded by several mainstream artists, including Diana Ross and Paul Simon, and garnered a top 10 hit of his own in the 1990’s, “I Am Redeemed.” In later years, Dixon was known for his work as a member of The Gaither Singers, being a mainstay in Gaither recordings, videos and concerts.
