President Donald Trump has tweeted that he considering granting posthumous pardon to Jack Johnson, the first African-American world heavyweight boxing champion. In 1913 Johnson’s life and career were derailed after he was convicted under a human trafficking law for taking his white girlfriend across state lines for “immoral” purposes. The law was historically used in racially motivated cases to prosecute black. Johnson died in 1946.
