Baltimore Orioles’ All-Star center fielder Adam Jones was cursed with racial slurs and had peanuts thrown at him Monday night at Fenway Park. Red Sox fans heckled Jones, who is one of only about 60 black players in Major League Baseball this year. Jones said, “It’s unfortunate that people need to resort to those type of epithets to degrade another human being. I’m trying to make a living for myself and for my family.” The Red Sox organization issued a statement apologizing to Jones saying, “No player should have an object thrown at him on the playing field, nor be subjected to any kind of racism at Fenway Park.” Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker called the behavior “shameful.”
