Congratulations to Olivia Stinson, winner of the Hometown Heroes contest. Stinson, 21, started serving at 3, traveling on mission trips. At 13, she won $500.00 in grants from NEA and YSA. At 14, she launched PEN Pals Book Club & Support Group for Children of Incarcerated Parents 12-19. A literacy-based organization exposes them to cultural events and performs monthly service projects. At 16, she established BE A Reader Book Club 2-11. Olivia raised $35,000.00. She’s cared for foster child acquired through organization 6 ½ years; adopted and supported 29 families. Olivia volunteers at shelters, coordinates tutoring program; collects jeans, school supplies and coats for youth; established library for former female prisoners; more. In college, she co-chaired Fall Festival for Forsyth County children; volunteers at Winston-Salem State University Daycare; helped package 10,000 food bags for overseas; more. Olivia’s motto: “To Whom Much is Given, Much is Required.” She always gives, and that’s why she our Hometown Hero.
