Jackson, MS — One of the most celebrated choirs of all time, The Mississippi Mass Choir to release an all new album DECLARATION OF DEPENDENCE today on Malaco Records. The Mass has transcended their genre by popularizing the choir sound and becoming the most well-known choirs of our generation. Absolutely synonymous with Gospel music, the Mississippi Mass Choir is deeply rooted in tradition celebrates 25 years of classic choir music, love and success.
The current single “God’s On Your Side,” featuring powerhouse vocalist, Le’Andria Johnson and producer extraordinaire Stan Jones. “God’s On Your Side,” is a quintessential song of strength and encouragement with unparalleled vocals from Johnson. DECLARATION OF DEPENDENCE offers new songs blending their tried and true sound with fresh and contemporary production from Mississippi natives Stan Jones, Jerry Smith, David R. Curry Jr. and Jerry Mannery, who all breathes new life into this legendary choir. Among the highlights include the title track “Declaration of Dependence,” “Draw Me Nearer,” featuring the soaring vocals of Lecresia Campbell; “I Can See Victory,” with Jones on vocals; the down home “I’ll Stick With Jesus” featuring Bishop Neal Roberson.
The album was recorded live in Jackson MS at Thalia Mara Hall last year to a sold out crowd and is the choir’s first album in four years.
In support of their new album, The Mass will be on tour this Summer on the McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour. The multi-city tour will make stops in 11 markets, including: Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Jackson, Los Angeles, Memphis, Newark, Oakland, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Raleigh. The Mass is undoubtedly one of the most influential choirs of our generation. For years the choir has been a constant presence at the top of the Billboard charts, amassing numerous recognitions and awards while performing worldwide. There is no question to the Mississippi Mass Choir’s significance in gospel music.
The DECLARATION OF DEPENDENCE live CD and companion DVD will be released on June 3, 2014. The DVD includes a special tribute to Frank Williams, the group’s beloved executive director who passed in 1993. As part of the tribute, the Mass recorded a medley of some of their most famous songs including “Your Grace and Mercy,” “Having You There,” “Near The Cross,” “Just Can’t Tell You How Good He’s Been,” and “Lord We Praise You.”
