It is easy at times to give advice to other people, or to look at their lives and be able to point out what needs to be changed. The same is true when listening to the challenges of their lives to say what you would or would not take or what they should or should not do.

Self-reflection is a little more difficult because that involves looking at your own life and owning the circumstances that you deal with every day.

Time is a precious commodity. Our days are filled with many things that must be accomplished. A glance at “Outlook Calendars” for the month can be scary and by the time we fit it all in, the one person that is often left out, is ourselves.

Making an appointment with ourselves can be one of the most important meetings that we schedule. This is a time, designated without distraction to reflect and conduct a self-check. Prayer and meditation is powerful during this time because it allows us to get in touch with how we are feeling. The same questions we ask others, we can ask ourselves, “how are you doing, is everything okay?”

Hebrews 12:27 reminds us, that taking time to reflect upon our own life is so important “Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.”

Self-Reflection ensures balance is maintained in our lives. With everyday pressures, it’s not hard to lose that balance; time spent in self-reflection can allow you to regroup.

Taking time for ourselves is sometimes frowned upon as selfish but it is very necessary. We absorb enormous amounts of information from what we see and hear each day and if we are not careful, we can get lost in a hectic pace.

The most important thing to remember is that keeping yourself whole and connected through prayer and time spent in personal reflection will ensure that you have what it takes to manage through all the other demands of life. Taking care of you is important to those that you love and care for. Doing so, allows the best of you to be present in most situations.
