There are times when life is tough. No matter how hard you try, you can’t make sense out of what is happening. And sometimes it seems that there is no help in sight and you can’t fix what is going wrong.

We have all experienced those difficult times in life. During those tough times in my life, I have even asked, “Where are you Lord?”

Tough times are faith times. We cannot rely on what we see to determine what the end will be.

Only faith will see us through.

This week Nancy Grace of HLN, had Trayvon Martins parents on her program to better understand how they each felt about the not guilty verdict. I was amazed at how strong Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton appeared, because in my opinion many of the questions crossed the emotional line. There was one particular line of questioning, when Sabrina referred to her faith in these times.

She said, “I cannot depend on my own understanding, because I cannot

understand why something like this would happen….but I have learned not to lean on my own understanding. I have to lean on my faith.”

It’s so true; there are times that we cannot make sense out of the things that happen to us or around us. Trying to figure out the whys and the why not’s often leads us further down the frustration path. When we can relax in our faith, knowing that better times are up ahead, and our burdens can become lighter.

James 1:12 provides comfort, “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

When I look back at the trials and tribulations that I have endured, as rough as many have been, the glory that followed was full of lessons, reasons and rewards.

The next time I am dealing with something tough and difficult to understand, I will remember the strength I saw in Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton and the strong faith they demonstrated.

Perhaps we can all benefit from their example.
