After about four hours of deliberation, a federal jury convicted Bishop Anthony Jinwright, senior pastor of Greater Salem City of God, on 13 counts of conspiracy and tax evasion. Jinwright was taken into federal custody Monday night.

His wife and co-pastor, Harriet Jinwright, was convicted on four counts – one for conspiracy and three for tax evasion. She left the courthouse escorted by her lawyer, Kevin Tate.

Harriet Jinwright, 50, was embraced by members of Greater Salem, who used umbrellas to shield her from news photographers, according to QcityMetro.com. Dozens of Jinwright supporters wept openly as they left the federal courthouse in uptown Charlotte.

Although the month-long trial garnered much attention among major news outlets the trial garnered thousands of comments on QcityMetro.com, and was the topic of conversation among many African Americans.
