New York–  Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration is planning on testing a new method of improving the worst schools in the city– replacing teachers and principals.

With school “Turnarounds”, The city would be going against it’s “philosophy of closing larger schools” to open smaller schools, but may receive less political blowback according to NY Times writer Fernanda Santos.  The proposal is in it’s beginning stages but city officials have reportedly been receptive to the proposal.

“It’s about, what do we need to get this staff in order for them to meet the needs of the children and stop with this one-size-fits-all stuff!” said Michael Mulgrew, the president of the teachers’ union, the United Federation of Teachers.
