South End’s Mazi Shuts Down After Only a Few Months

Mazi, a modern Mediterranean restaurant that opened in Charlotte’s South End in mid-March, has closed after just a few months in operation. Led by a team of local culinary stars—including chefs Chris Coleman and Whit Thomas, beverage director Bob Peters, and wine steward Rob Oldenburg—Mazi offered a menu of seasonal mezze, seafood, and kofta, with a standout baklava sundae that quickly became a customer favorite. According to The Charlotte Observer, the restaurant aimed to create a shared dining experience, as reflected in its name, which means “together” in Greek. Despite participating in Charlotte Restaurant Week, Mazi closed its doors on Wednesday, July 30.
