A new chapter for education in Charlotte will begin next summer with the opening of Wake Forest University’s first four-year medical school in the Queen City. According to the Charlotte Observer, this marks a significant milestone for the region, as Charlotte is one of the largest U.S. cities without its own medical school.

Historically, more than 700 students have attended the college in Charlotte, and 40 doctoral degrees have been awarded by its faculty, according to local historians.

The campus, located at 229 N. Church St., is recognized as a historical landmark by both the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
