I often get calls about the commercials we are running. Health related information is always an attention getter, but one in particular is uterine fibroids. I get so many calls from women wanting to know more,  and wanting help.Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors found in a woman’s reproductive system.  Uterine Fibroids are very common and in particular among African American women.  African American women are at a higher risk for fibroids, with up to 50% of women between the ages of 35 and 45 diagnosed.  Symptoms associated with uterine fibroids are abdominal pain, pelvic pressure, pain in the back of the legs, cramping and heavy and unpredictable menstrual cycles.

We’ve been talking with the physicians at Charlotte Radiology who are experts in a non-surgical procedure called Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE).  UFE treats the pain and heavy bleeding caused by fibroids.  UFE treats multiple fibroids without harming your uterus as some of the other options for treatment do.

This non-surgical procedure takes only a few hours and you can return to your normal routine usually within one week.  Other treatment options usually require 6 weeks of recovery time.  Many women are not able to take 6 weeks off of work, or away from responsibilities at home.

Other symptoms for uterine fibroids back pain, pain during sexual intercourse, bladder pain, frequent urination, and abnormally enlarged abdomen.

If you have been diagnosed with uterine fibroids and are wondering what to do, or perhaps have had myomectomy or hysterectomy suggested by your doctor – consider UFE. UFE is a successful treatment option for thousands of women, with at least 90% reporting significant or total relief from fibroids.

Don’t let fibroids take over your life.  Call 704.FIBROID to schedule a consultation with a physician at Charlotte Radiology.
