Missing Monroe Teen Found Dead In Maryland River
The story captured our hearts and played on every parent’s fear. A teenage girl goes to the big city to visit her sister and is never heard from again. The mystery of Monroe teen Phylicia Barnes’ disappearance ended tragically this week when her body was found in the Susquehanna River about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Charlotte Observer story. Barnes disappeared during the Christmas holidays while visiting her sister in Baltimore. She texted her sister that she was going to eat, but was never heard from again.
Barnes’ mother has been on national TV news shows urging police to find out what happened to her daughter who was an honor student and a track star. The discovery of Barnes’ body this week doesn’t quell questions about Barnes disappearance and now death. According to the Observer story, police offered no information about happened to Barnes. An unidentified man was also found in the river about three miles from where Barnes’ body was discovered. Police did not tell the Observer whether the two deaths were connected.
