The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board voted unanimously last night to approve Phase 1 of a new student assignment plan. The plan will give priority to disadvantaged student, assigning them with consideration of the family income, level of education, and neighborhood in which they live. The board hopes the plan will create 13,000 new magnet seats for students that are assigned to low performing schools and break up patterns of poverty in certain schools.
