The 2016 presidential race has seen one of the most heated primaries the nation has ever witnessed. According to reports, a local North Carolina GOP office was firebombed and destroyed on Sunday. The incident happened in Hillsborough, North Carolina, outside of Raleigh. “It’s just reprehensible in so many different ways,” said Hillsborough mayor Tom Stevens. “I don’t think it is representative of the majority of the people in this town, who have faith in our political discourse and our political process.” There has been speculation that the local GOP was hiding absentee ballots in the office. North Carolina Republican Party spokeswoman Emily Weeks shared that the ballots were destroyed during the incident, but then backtracked. There was no one in the office during the time of the attack and no arrests have been made. Local, state and federal authorities have launched a probe into the bombing. Read more.

Facial-Recognition Systems Used by Police Prompt Racial Profiling
A type of technology used by law enforcement officials is under scrutiny after it was discovered that it may be racially profiling African-Americans. According to a study released by the Center for Privacy & Technology at Georgetown University Law School, titled The Perpetual Line-Up, facial-recognition systems utilized by police officials are more likely to collect images of Blacks, which are later used during criminal investigations. The implementation of these high-tech systems begets racial disparities since African-Americans are more likely to be apprehended and taken into precincts for mug shots. The report also notes that although some people are found to be innocent, the facial-recognition systems don’t remove their images. “This is a serious problem, and no one is working to fix it,” said Alvaro M. Bedoya, executive director of the Georgetown Law center. “Police departments are talking about it as if it’s race-blind, and it’s just not true.” Nearly 117 million people in our country have their images stored in police databases. Melania Trump Speaks Out About Sexual Assault Scandal

During an interview with CNN on Monday, Melania shared that all of the sexual assault allegations made against her husband are “lies” and that he was prompted to make misogynistic comments about women during a 2005 tape. “I believe my husband. This was all organized from the opposition. And with the details … did they ever check the background of these women? They don’t have any facts,” she said. Despite the allegations and the resurfaced recordings, she still believes that her husband has respect for women. “He’s raw. He will say it as he feels it. So you know, I know he respects women. But he’s defending himself because they’re lies,” she said. “But my husband is real. He’s raw. He tells it like it is. He’s kind. He’s a gentleman. He supports everybody. He supports women. He encourages them to go to the highest level, to achieve their dreams. He employs many, many women.” Read more.
