The first regular season game proved to be too much for the Carolina Panthers. In a 21-20 loss to the Denver Broncos, the Panthers had to leave Mile High Stadium shaking their heads. In a questionable series of head-to-head hits from the Broncos’ defense, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton never got the benefit of a call from the officials. Equally as questionable, Newton continued the whole game without being checked for a concussion.
The game hinged on the last :09 seconds, when Panthers kicker Graham Gano hooked a 50-yard field goal wide left, missing it and giving the Broncos the win.
