While Philadelphia continues to pull together last minute touches for the arrival of Pope Francis in the coming weeks, the Queen of Soul is also getting ready as well. Aretha Franklin will be performing for Pope Francis on Saturday, September 26th, when the pope visits the World Meeting of Families in the city of Brotherly Love.
Franklin is truly no stranger to performing for dignitaries and top officials including President Barack Obama, whom she sang “My Country Tis of Thee” during the 2009 inaugural ceremony.
Franklin is calling the upcoming performance an honor. “It is indeed a blessing to sing in the presence of His Holiness and to the attendees of the Festival of Families in the City of Brotherly Love. “I look forward to this event. Be blessed!”
The event will be hosted by actor Mark Wahlberg with additional performances by The Fray, Sister Sledge, Andrea Bocelli, Juanes and The Philadelphia Orchestra.
