“Foul ball!” That was the call made by the leaders of Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West baseball team against Little League International.

The team’s leaders have filed a court petition to force Little League International to hand over documents and information that led to the decision to strip the team of its national championship, the Chicago Tribune reports:

“We want answers to the questions that Little League has not been willing to provide,” said Victor Henderson, an attorney representing the team. “Publicly they said … (they) would be forthright and forthcoming and give us the entire basis for their decision. When they refused to do so, we then took the only avenue that was left to us, which was to file a petition” in Cook County Circuit Court.

Little League International said it had not reviewed the petition and could not comment on it. But in a prepared statement, the league said it takes player eligibility seriously and all 152 teams in last year’s 16 regional tournaments underwent the same verification process.

Jackie Robinson West was stripped of its national championship in February after its coaches were accused of creating an all-star team by enlisting players who lived outside the proper boundaries.

We hope the case is resolved in favor of the youth, who should not be made to suffer for the mistakes of adults. What do you think? Sound off in the comment section below.
