Here, Syreeta and Vonderrit Myers Sr., the parents of Vonderrit Myers Jr., who was fatally shot by a St. Louis City Police officer,  speak out against what they believe is a character assassination by police and the mainstream media, regarding their son.

“I want the world to know that, my son may have made some wrong decisions, but he was not an animal; he was not just out on the street doing bad things,” Syreeta Myers tells NewsOne correspondent Tim Lampley.

Myers is the latest victim of a police shooting in the St. Louis area. According to police, the 18-year-old fired first at an off-duty police officer following a physical altercation. However, there are conflicting reports about how many times the officer (whose name has not been released) shot at Myers, with some indicating the youth was shot 16 times. Either way, Myers’ parents are demanding answers in their son’s killing.
