A few weeks ago I went and had II Corinthians 12:9 tattooed on my back. When my uncle saw it he asked me to recite the scripture:
9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (NIV)
After I recited the scripture my uncle asked: “What’s the difference between grace and mercy.”
Here’s what we came up with:
Grace is God giving us what we don’t deserve.
Mercy is God keeping us from what we do deserve.
We need both in our lives and I am so thankful that His grace is sufficient and that he gives me new mercies every morning.
