Words carry so much value in our lives and in the lives of those who occupy the world around us.  Generally, they are vehicles through which we communicate, express ourselves, and relate to each other. Although words are essential tools for uplifting and encouraging others, they are often misused. People use them to tear down, imprison, and utterly destroy the lives of other people. Whether they originate from others or from our own consciousness, words have power. I am sure you concur. As an adult, I can still recall the words spoken over me, sometimes negative and sometimes positive. We must view these words as seeds sown in our hearts. They eventually affect our actions, disposition, and, in some cases, our future. I remember at a Hiding Behind the Lipstick event, an elderly woman shared that she still replayed her mothers’ awful words to her, “You’re my ugly child.”

Life is difficult enough within itself. Don’t allow the words spoken over you to take root within your being and alter the course of your destiny. You are a beautiful creation; God’s handiwork. Challenge the negativity with positive thoughts and words. Ultimately, we can’t control what others say, but we can control what we believe. Speak life.
