The potential impact of Hurricane Irene in the DMC has postponed plans to dedicate Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the National Mall, according to the Associated Press and News One reports. The monument dedication festivies were planned for the entire weekend with the main dedication ceremony occurring at 11 a.m. Sunday. Organizers say the impending storm means the dedication ceremony will be postponed until September or October. President Obama was scheduled to speak at Sunday’s dedication. Harry Johnson, the president of the foundation that built the memorial, told the Associated Press Saturday’s black-tie gala will also be postponed.
