Johnson C. Smith University students studying retail management can benefit from a $500,000 donation The Belk Foundation announced today.

At least four business majors will be named Belk Scholars this spring. They will receive a $2,500 scholarship, be matched with a Belk employee mentor and take part in business training available through the department-store chain.

“This scholarship will provide needed financial support to high-achieving students and will be a wonderful opportunity for our employees to engage with students to provide real-world guidance and experience,” said Adam Orvos, Belk’s executive vice president of human resources and a member of the JCSU Business Advisory Board.

JCSU President Ronald Carter said the endowed scholarship will help the historically black university develop a stronger retail management concentration.
