In a city still reeling from the senseless murder of a young teen, organizers of the 17th Anniversary of the Million Man March commemoration activities hope people will use this week to reflect on the historic gathering. The Million Man March was hailed as a watershed event for African Americans, especially men. Hundreds of thousands of black men descended upon the nation’s capital for a day prayer, reflection and inspiration.
“It was all about unity that day,” said Brother Corey Muhammad.
Each year march founder and Nation of Islam leader Min. Louis Farrakhan holds a public speech to commemorate the march. This year’s event will be at Bojangles Arena on Sunday. His topic wll be presenting an economic blueprint to end poverty and want. Farrakhan’s speech is the highlight of a weekend of activities meant to bring African Americans together.
