As the roster of Black people marginalized by systemic racism, killed by police, and shunned by society continues to grow, fewer of us are willing to stay silent. That includes Black Hollywood.

Members of Black Hollywood, many of whom participated in the #OccupyCityHall movement in Los Angeles on July 17, came together once again to launch a public service announcement #SomedayIsToday (produced by Tommy and Codie Oliver as well as Steve Jones) that put forth the messaging that today is the day “we shall overcome.”

Meagan Good, Alfre Woodard, Aja Naomi King, Luis Guzman, Marlon WayansTina Knowles-Lawson, Tika Sumpter, Michael Ealy, Larenz Tate, Omar Epps, Keisha Epps, Boris Kodjoe, Nicole Ari Parker, Hosea Chanchez, Affion Crockett, Kimberly Elise, Anthony Hemingway, Bille Woodruff, Chris Spencer, Vanessa Spencer, Derek Watkins (Fonzworth Bentley,) Kendrick Sampson, Dondre Whitfield, Kim Whitley, Rutina Wesley, Faune Chambers, Richard Lawson, Tanika Ray, Chino, La La Anthony, Hill Harper and Sinqua Walls recite lines from the well-known hymn “We Shall Overcome,” but put a specific date on “someday” — today.

“The #SomedayIsToday messaging presents the opportunity for today marking the day we take control of our narrative, take control of our heritage, take control of not only our own lives, but more importantly, the lives of those who look like us,” says director and producer Tommy Oliver.

The most recent campaign supported by members of Black Hollywood is Campaign Zero — a platform that presents comprehensive solutions to end police violence in America and integrates community demands and policy recommendations from research organizations and the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.
