It’s funny how we can find ourselves in a wrestling match with God even when it is clear that if we would just let go of our situation and let God, the match could be over and the victory would be ours. The human side of us however tries at times to find our own way, mistakenly believing we know what is best.

Slipping into the mindset of working situations out for yourself is not difficult at all. With the hard headed belief that we can work things out through our own power is what typically lands us in the wrestling match.

If you have ever tuned into any of the WWF matches, most times harm is not the intention of the match, rather, who is superior over the other. In Genesis 32:24-26 (ERV), we read of one of the most crucial matches of all time when Jacob wrestled with God. As a matter of fact, he wrestled so long that God caused injury to his hip to gain his attention. “24 Jacob was left alone, and a man came and wrestled with him. The man fought with him until the sun came up. 25 When the man saw that he could not defeat Jacob, he touched Jacob’s leg and put it out of joint.26 Then the man said to Jacob, “Let me go. The sun is coming up.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go. You must bless me.”

Isn’t that just like many of us, we wrestle and wrestle with what God has for our lives only to continue to run into road block after road block. Usually when we continue down that ‘know it all path’ is when something happens that forces us to consider what God has been trying to tell us all along.

Life circumstances can be tough as we fail to realize that God is with us even through life’s dilemmas. Through the night we toss and turn and toil over what to do in our situation and then day break is upon us.

God is good and though we may struggle with him through some of the darkest times in our life, He still stands ready to bless us in our new day.
