On June 27, many local health centers, churches and community organizations across the country held events for National HIV Testing Day. This important day was designated to make people more aware and to get tested to know their status. However, the mission continues each day to educate and make people aware of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Rae Lewis Thornton is living with AIDS. In 1986, she surprisingly discovered she was HIV positive after volunteering to donate blood at the local DC Red Cross center. She was only 23 years old.
