When I talk to people about why they aren’t cooking as much at home, one of the biggest reasons is they just don’t have the time. After a long day at work, who wants to come home and sweat over the stove for hours–when take-out is so much faster? I’ve found that the key to getting healthful and delicious meals to the table quickly is all about prep time. Here are a few tips to help speed up the workday cooking process.

  • Figure out what you want to cook before you leave out in the morning. By deciding what’s for dinner before you’ve eaten breakfast, you can refrigerate any foods that need to be defrosted–eliminating one step when you come home.

  • Making pasta or veggies for dinner? Start a pot of lightly salted water as soon as you get in to get a head start on prep.
