Melanie’s Guide to Charlotte: 5 Charlotte Soul Food Spots to Try During Stellar Week

Welcome to Charlotte, family – now let’s eat!

If you’re coming to the Queen City for Stellar Week, you already know good Gospel music deserves some good food to go with it. Charlotte has plenty of Southern flavor, whether you want the old-school plate or something with a little more polish.

  1. Mert’s Heart & Soul — An Uptown Charlotte staple for fried chicken, salmon cakes, shrimp and grits, greens and those famous Soul Rolls.
  2. Nana Morrison’s Soul Food — Cafeteria-style soul food with hearty portions and all the sides. Super clean and multiple locations in the city.
  3. Mr. Charles Chicken & Fish — Fried chicken, fish, mac and cheese, greens and Southern comfort without a lot of fuss.
  4. Kristy’s Creole Kitchen – a newer restaurant the grew out of a takeout service location, serves traditional Creole dishes
  5. Kitchen + Kocktails by Kevin Kelley — Right in Uptown, with elevated comfort food, seafood and a high-energy atmosphere.

Come hungry. Charlotte understands the assignment.
