Nearly 100 people, ranging from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police to elected officials to residents, spent Monday evening talking about how the events of September 2016 shook this community and what happens next.

“This gives the community an opportunity to respond to the City Council’s letter to the community,” said Community Relations Executive Director Willie Ratchford. “We want the community to provide some suggestions on what they think the council might do.”

Ratchford was referring to the City Council’s commitment to address affordable housing, public trust and jobs following the September riots.

For two hours, Ratchford and Community Building Initiative director Dianne English guided the discussion in which participants sat in groups of 10 discussing their personal commitment as well as expectations of the council to build a better quality of life for everyone in Charlotte.
