A video was released yesterday showing a North Miami police officer shooting a man, who was caring for his autistic patient who had wandered away from his care. North Miami Police said the incident began, Monday, when someone called 911 and said there was a man walking around with a gun threatening suicide. Charles Kinsey said the man was his patient, and the “gun” was actually a toy truck, clearly visible to police.

Kinsey, a behavior therapist, had his hands up and was laying down with his back on the street when he was shot, all the while saying he was mostly concerned for his patient.  “I was really more worried about him than myself. I was thinking as long as I have my hands up … they’re not going to shoot me. Wow, was I wrong.” No firearm was found. The officer was put on administrative leave. Kinsey is recovering from his gunshot wound in the hospital.
