“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.” Proverbs 3:5, NIV

Life is filled with experiences that, if taken at face value, could persuade you to stop trusting God. As a single person, perhaps you expected to be married or remarried by now. Since the possibility of that happening looks dim, it makes sense to throw away confidence in God’s ability to bring a suitable mate. Perhaps you’ve experienced loss; that of a loved one or even a job. It would seem like a good time to throw away confidence in God’s stability and faithfulness. But the writer of Hebrews reminds us that there is a rich reward for those who hold fast to their confidence in God. That reward is found in the reality of eternal glory and in the truth of life to come. If you are basing your confidence in God on your life experiences, you may be limiting God’s work that is to come. Today, God says to you, “Don’t give up on me yet…I’m just getting started!”

Lord, I confess that it is so easy to loose confidence in your promises. Sometimes, it seems easier to put confidence in self or in others than it is to be confident in you. But God, give me the Grace to trust you more! Help me to see that my confidence rests not in what is seen, but in what is unseen. Thank you for the promise of the reward that is to come. You alone are God and I lay my life in your hands. In Jesus Name, AMEN.
