My apologies for not writing something like this sooner. For weeks we have seen countless everyday people and celebrities post their #BringBackOurGirls photos.

However, it wasn’t until I saw the cast of Entertainment Tonight post a photo with caption:

“Entertainment Tonight says #BringBackOurGirls. Take a photo — Spread the word.”

At that moment I thought they had done a disservice to their audience by not providing REAL information and realized we too were guilty. Spreading the word is great, but this isn’t a movement to get people to drink more water, there are lives at stake here and every moment counts.

Clearly most of people can’t drop everything and book a flight to Nigeria, but as a nation we have the power to call our elected officials to action. With that said I wrote this piece on how we and our users can effectively use social media in this case and other philanthropic endeavors.
