History was made at the legendary Newark Symphony Hall breaking the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for Largest Gospel Choir. The McDonald’s Gospel Super Choir was made up of 1171 singers of all ages, from across the New York Tri-state area and as far away as Philadelphia and Florida. This record breaking event was produced and directed by Emmy Award winning A. Curtis Farrow. “We did it! We brought the record back to our country where Gospel Music was born! The community really showed up!”
People of all ages, including current and former athletes who are part of the NFL Players Choir, came together to form a this large gathering produced and directed by Emmy Award winning A. Curtis Farrow.
“From the minute the Guinness World Records adjudicator announced that we had broke the record, my body felt like if not but for a moment it was touched by 1,171 of my ancestors at the same time,” Farrow said.
“I could personally feel the touch of the slaves on the slave ship, to Harriet Tubman, to Frederick Douglass, to Thomas Dorsey to Mahalia Jackson, to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to Rev. James Cleveland, to my late grandmother Mary Cross. I felt like they were all touching everyone in the room at the same time saying…WELL DONE CHILDREN.”
The choir sang six songs alongside some of the nation’s most legendary singers. Among the songs chosen were: “Oh Happy Day,” “Amazing Grace” featuring Cissy Houston accompanied by Jazz great Nat Adderley Jr, “Stand” featuring Gospel great Donald Malloy, “Amen” featuring Gospel pioneer Milton Biggham, “Let the Church Say Amen” featuring Maurice Johnson and “Total Praise” featuring Lorraine Stancil Lawson.
