“I lift my eyes to the hills-from where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2, NRSV

Everyone is trying to figure out what’s happening to our economy. Scholars can’t figure it out, Wall Street can’t make sense of it, and our pockets are wondering what happened. Everyone is looking for a solution to the years of debt and recession that loom on the horizon. Yet, while the world searches for answers, God reminds us where to look for help. Now more than ever, those who know God must look up to Him. Though we are tempted to look to employers or bank accounts, our times force us to look up to God, maker of heaven and earth, for the source of our strength. What was once just a saying must now be your truth: God is your source. He is the sustainer of your life and the provider of your needs. He will keep us when the world, the economy, and politics let us down. Today, lift up your eyes, over the valleys of despair, to the hills of faith and see God. He’s the only One that matters.

Lord your word says out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh, and in times such as these we come before you confessing that our hearts and minds are troubled because of the abundance of uncertainty we are faced with today. So we look up towards the hills and we caste our cares upon you knowing that you care for us. We focus not on our situations God but we meditate on your promise to supply all of our needs according to your riches in Glory. Help us to seek your Kingdom in spite of all our anxieties. Help us to take no thought for the matters of this world knowing that if you provide for the fowls in the air, how much more you being our father, will also provide for us. Thank you God for all that you do for us and through us and it is in Jesus’ name that we ask these things. Amen!
