Good luck finding a juror who doesn’t have an opinion on this case. Jury selection for George Zimmerman’s trial for second-degree murder is set to begin Monday, more than one year after he shot and killed Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman, who is Hispanic, claims he acted in self-defense when he killed Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old who Zimmerman says was “up to no good” when he stopped him. Zimmerman’s trial is expected to last four to six weeks, although the defense was handed a setback last week when a judge ruled that Martin’s texts, school records, and possible marijuana use could not be brought up at trial. Meanwhile, protesters gathered outside Seminole County Courthouse in Sanford, Florida, on the eve of Zimmerman’s trial, including a group called the Revolutionary Communist Party.
