Cities across the U.S. are marking the fifth anniversary of George Floyd’s murder Sunday with religious services, concerts, and vigils, as activists say momentum for police reform has slowed. In Minneapolis, events center on George Floyd Square, where former officer Derek Chauvin fatally pinned Floyd with a knee to his neck in 2020. A weekend of commemorations began Friday and concludes with worship and a candlelight vigil, according to WCNC. Despite early promises of change, some activists say reform has stalled. “The progress being claimed by the city is not being felt in the streets,” said activist Michelle Gross.
