Ismini Svensson’s father passed away several years before her wedding date.  Not able to envision her wedding without him, Ismini and her fiancé, Mark, decided to pass on an expensive wedding and honeymoon, and instead to dedicate that time and money towards honoring her father. You see, Ismini’s father, who left his mark by serving the underprivileged, had gone into cardiac arrest while hosting a charity event to award scholarships to under-served youth. It was his lifelong exhibition of selflessness that led the couple to opt for a courthouse ceremony and use what would have been their wedding money for a state-by-state “50 Acts of Kindness” journey, instead.

That was January 2013, and the Svensson’s are still going strong. They have provided the elderly with groceries in Texas, furnished homes for homeless families in Nevada, and delivered flowers and presents to cancer patients in North Carolina, and founded StayUNITED, a non-profit that works to promote education, health and civic engagement in New York’s children and youth. Check out their story!
