G. Star Swain could not have imagined that a trip with her family to the Lincoln Memorial would turn her world upside down. While visiting Washington, D.C. on June 16, Swain’s family encouraged her to share an impromptu version of the Star Spangled Banner. It was recorded and shared on Facebook and YouTube. The video, now having garnered more than 15 million views on Facebook, has prompted performance requests from all over the country.  This morning, Swain made her national television debut performing the anthem on “Good Morning America.”

Swain, is an assistant principal at the Jefferson County Middle/High School in Monticello, Florida, is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in education policy and evaluation. She also sings in her church choir.  In honor of the 4th of July weekend, take a look at the original impromptu performance!
