Charlotte City Officials are expected to hold a news conference at 3:30 today at which it is reported they will name Kerr Putney Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief.  Current CMPD Chief Rodney Monroe will retire on July 1.

Putney is currently the deputy chief of the Administrative Services Group and oversees the Training Bureau, the Administrative Services Bureau, the Planning and Research Division, Crime Analysis Division, the Communications Division, the Crime Reporting Unit, the Computer Technology Solutions Division, Professional Standards and Court Services.

He is a graduate of UNC Charlotte with a bachelor’s degree in criminology and of ECU where he obtained his master’s degree in criminology.
