Longtime ESPN anchor Stuart Scott died today at age 49. Scott was diagnosed with cancer in 2007. He battled with complications and recurring bouts with the same enthusiasm he showed for sports.

In the sports world, he is remembered for his catchphrases that made ESPN cool and changed the way television sports would be covered forever. Tributes have poured in via Twitter and elsewhere as the world remembers Scott.

“…(Stuart) is ‘the other side of pillow,’ the man who made sportscasting cool. God bless whoever it was who thought to rearrange the bedding at ESPN,” said ESPN anchor Jay Harris.

Scott’s alma mater UNC Chapel Hill released a statement on Scott’s death.

“…Stuart taught us that sports is about joy and laughter, not just achievement and results. More important, he showed us how to fight with dignity and honor…”

Scott leaves behind two daughters Taelor, 19, and Sydni, 15. Read the ESPN tribute to Scott.
