Mass Layoffs Expected at Major Manufacturer in Gaston County

Over 500 workers are set to be temporarily laid off from a major manufacturing facility in Gaston County.
State records show Daimler Truck notified officials of the planned workforce reduction at its Mount Holly plant on Friday, July 11.
According to WBTV, 573 employees will be affected by the temporary layoffs starting July 18, 2025. The notice states that those employees will continue to receive full pay through Sept. 9, 2025.
Daimler attributed the decision to “a sustained reduction in orders and diminished build rate.” The company indicated the layoffs are intended to be temporary, though it did not specify how long they may last.
In a statement, Daimler Truck cited a “challenging economic environment” as it navigates the current market conditions.
